I will post a copy of the t-shirt invoice and a copy of the money order that I purchase to send to the Des Moines Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Every penny above the cost of the t-shirts will go to the Des Moines Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The more t-shirts that are purchased, the cheaper they become, and the more money we can raise to help find a cure! WHY? I was diagnosed in April 2008 with breast cancer, and am currently in treatments. You can read my story at TarasTees.com. Right after I was diagnosed, I became restless waiting for surgery and treatments to begin, and had an idea for a t-shirt fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research. My friends and family purchased 271 t-shirts and $3,000 was raised and donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, which was very exciting! My husband, Dave, and I have two children who are active in softball and baseball – our daughter has been playing softball for 8 years on Urbandale, Waukee and Iowa SWAT teams; and our son has been playing baseball for 8 years on Clive T-Ball, Walnut Creek Little League, West Des Moines, and on AAU teams - most recently the Central Iowa Slam. We are at the ball parks a lot in the spring, summer and fall, but we love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. We have met some wonderful friends by our children playing ball! We know the local softball and baseball communities are full of caring individuals and organizations, and wanted to include them in this fundraising effort. Some of the great friends we’ve met are Rob & Lucy Tennant, owners of All-Star Strike Zone. We met them over 3 years ago when our daughters played on the same Waukee team, and Rob was the coach. Lucy is an oncology nurse specializing in breast cancer research, and she has been a great source of information and support for me, along with being an awesome friend in general! Their daughters have been playing softball for many years on Waukee and Iowa SWAT teams, and their love for the game is what inspired them to open their All-Star business. Rob & Lucy have agreed to have All-Star Strike Zone be the distribution center for people to pick up their t-shirts when they arrive, which will be great since they are open 7 days a week. (There is also a shipping option for those who would like their t-shirt(s) mailed to them.) How you can help: 1) Consider purchasing a T-Shirt or T-Shirt(s). With the wide variety of colors available, you can pick something that goes with your school colors, team colors...or just your favorite color. These t-shirts will arrive before, and would be great to wear to, the Komen Des Moines Race for the Cure being held on Saturday, October 25 if you plan on participating.
